Ruth, Oscar, Nicky, Jacob and I (Hannah) are this year’s DIAS Astronomy and Astrophysics summer interns. We are all working on a variety of different projects and we’ve decided to write a blog to document the journey and to let people know about all of the cool things we’re up to. What got you interested in astrophysics:Â Watching Stargazing live and other science documentaries as a kid
Plans after college:Â Postgraduate in astrophysics
Other hobbies:Â Running, sea swimming & drawing

Favourite Scientist: William Rowan Hamilton
What got you interested in astrophysics:Â Growing up, watching all of the Brian Cox and Stephen Hawking documentaries I could find!
Plans after college:Â Postgraduate in astrophysics
Other hobbies: Cycling, Debating, Outreach
Nicky
Degree and year of study: TCD Theoretical Physics, going into 3rd Year
Favourite Scientist:Â Richard Feynman
What got you interested in astrophysics: Watching science/futurism youtube channels such as PBS Space Time / Isaac Arthur in Secondary School made me realise how cool physics and space are
Plans after college:

Other hobbies:Â Programming, Tinkering with technology, designing things and gaming

Degree and year of study:Â Theoretical Physics, TCD, just finished!Â

What got you interested in astrophysics: Reading New Scientist Astro articles
Plans after college: I’m starting an MSc in Space Science and Engineering at UCL in September
Other hobbies: Playing piano, painting and swimming

Degree and year of study: Physics Technology, TU Dublin, just finished.
Favourite Scientist:Â Jonathan Mackey and Davit Zargaryan 😉
What got you interested in astrophysics: Watching Brian Cox Documentaries
and my Bachelor’s project on High Energy Astrophysics studying Active Galactic Nuclei!
Plans after college:Â A Postgraduate, continuing the research from my project and current internship here at DIAS.
Other hobbies: Playing Football, guitar and gaming
