Space Crafts will expand our current education programme to include local primary schools in a series of collaborative science and arts workshops. In partnership with Superprojects and a group of Irish artists, we will develop and run new workshops at the Observatory that will include informative science activities followed by art activities inspired by the science the students have learned.
We will invite 5th and 6th class students from DEIS primary schools in West Dublin to visit Dunsink and participate in 3-day workshops during school terms, working with a different school each season of the year. The artwork created by the students will be displayed in the Observatory’s public rooms for the rest of the season, allowing the local community and general public to view during our Public Visitor Nights and other special events.
Space Crafts will provide a new platform for deeper educational engagement with local primary schools, introducing the students to STEM subjects they will soon study in secondary school in a fun way. Our vision is that the workshops will instil a stronger sense of ownership in the scientific heritage of Dunsink and the exciting space research taking place in their local area.
